人気バンド「サザンオールスターズ」のデビュー 40周年を祝い、桑田佳祐さんの母校の神奈川県茅ケ崎市立茅ケ崎小で6月23日、市民らが「サザン40おめでとう」との人文字を作った。

サザンオールスターズは1978年6月25日に「勝手にシンドバッド」でデビュー。同曲の歌詞に茅ケ崎が登場するなど、出身地の知名度を高めた。桑田さんの同級生らの要望を受け、茅ケ崎商工会議所青年部が企画した。

桑田さんは2013年に茅ケ崎市から市民栄誉賞を贈られている。 (KYODO)

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the debut of the popular band Southern All Stars (aka Sazan or SAS), locals gathered on June 23 at Keisuke Kuwata's alma mater Chigasaki Municipal Elementary School in Kanagawa Prefecture to arrange themselves in formation to spell out the message "Happy 40th, Sazan."

Southern All Stars made their debut on June 25, 1978, with "Katte ni Shindobaddo" ("Willfully Sinbad"). Kuwata boosted the popularity of his hometown by, for example, dropping the name of the city into the song. The Chigasaki Chamber of Commerce and Industry Young Entrepreneurs Group planned the event after receiving a request to mark the occasion from Kuwata's former classmates.

In 2013 Kuwata was presented with the Citizens' Honor Award by Chigasaki city.
