More than a dozen sake products from Katoukichibee Shoten have been certified as kosher, adhering to the strict food standards tailored for Jewish people.
"This is only the beginning of promoting sake around the world," Atsuhide Kato, the 11th-generation head of the sake brewer, said at a news conference Monday in Tokyo at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan.
The Fukui Prefecture-based brewer won the KLBD Kosher Certification, Kashrut Division of the London Beth Din, for its BORN brands on Jan. 16.
Katoukichibee Shoten started selling its BORN sake overseas in the early 1990s.
