Ex-lawmaker's former secretary fined for election law violation
Shu Goto, a former secretary of former Lower House lawmaker Mito Kakizawa, was fined over cash offers made to Koto Ward assembly members during a mayoral election last year.
Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Mito Kakizawa was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison, suspended for five years, for an illegal campaign finance offense related to a Tokyo ward election in April last year.

"His criminal acts were malicious crimes and shook the people's confidence in the fairness of elections, which is the basis of democracy," the judge said.
Kakizawa was serving his fifth term as a member of the House of Representatives until he stepped down as a lawmaker earlier this month following his indictment.
