Awaiting Okinawans' verdict
As the campaign kicks off for the Nov. 16 Okinawa gubernatorial election, the Abe administration maintains that it will go ahead with land reclamation off the Henoko district of Nago to build a replacement facility for U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, regardless of who wins the race.

Thousands march on Henoko base site
More than 3,500 demonstrators marched to U.S. Marine Corps Camp Schwab in Nago, Okinawa Prefecture, on Saturday in the largest show of anger to date against the new American base being built off Henoko Bay to replace Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in crowded Ginowan further southwest.

Abe Futenma plan hailed by Nakaima
Okinawa Gov. Hirokazu Nakaima welcomed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's announcement Thursday that he would seek U.S. President Barack Obama's cooperation in closing U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa within five years.
