The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks are on the verge of steamrolling toward another Japan Series title if the first two games of this year’s series are any indication.

Slugger Hotaka Yamakawa was the Hawks’ main weapon during the final stage of the Pacific League Climax Series, and he made his presence felt in Game 2 of the Japan Series with a three-hit performance that included a two-run home run and an RBI single in a 6-3 win.

The Hawks earned a 5-3 win in Game 1 and are taking a 2-0 lead in the series back home to Mizuho PayPay Dome, where they will host at least the next two contests. SoftBank, two wins away from its first title since 2020, will also host Game 5 if the BayStars avoid being swept.
