Thailand's Buriram United is second in the early standings of the league phase following their 1-0 win over Pohang Steelers while Shanghai Port defeated Australia's Central Coast Mariners 3-2 and Yokohama F. Marinos drew 2-2 with hosts Shandong Taishan.

Asani scored twice inside the opening six minutes to give the K. League side an early cushion, with Feroz Baharudin halving the deficit with a 28th-minute header.
