When Shohei Ohtani slipped into a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform — one of the iconic home whites — for the first time during his introductory news conference with the club in December, the most coveted free agent in baseball history said he chose the Dodgers in part because he wanted to win championships and be a core member of a championship team.
He had already achieved that in Japan when he led the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters to the Japan Series title in 2016, and internationally by guiding Samurai Japan to the World Baseball Classic crown in 2023.
Now, in his seventh MLB season, he is heading to his first World Series after helping the Dodgers dispatch the Mets 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
