Urawa Reds Ladies made not one, but two new additions to their trophy cabinet over the weekend, emerging as Asian champions on Friday night before results elsewhere confirmed a successful WE League title defense on Sunday.
The Saitama outfit was crowned continental champion on Friday as it came from behind to beat South Korean side Hyundai Steel Red Angels in the final of the AFC Women’s Championship Cup in front of a crowd of 5,271 at Urawa Komaba Stadium.
Urawa came out of the traps a little shaky, and it was through a misplaced pass in its defensive third that gave Hyundai an early lead just 13 minutes in. This was short lived as powerful forward Kiko Seike leveled the score with a thunderous volley shot nine minutes later.
