French prodigy Victor Wembanyama scored 15 points in his much-anticipated NBA debut but Luka Doncic's triple-double spoiled his night as the Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs 126-119 on Wednesday night.

Wembanyama, the top pick in this year's draft, was in foul trouble throughout the second half and made 6-of-9 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot over 23 minutes in his first NBA contest.

"It was a lot of emotion," Wembanyama said. "It would have been perfect to win. Tonight really marks the beginning. It's still a dream, I hope to keep that dream feeling."
