Kei Nishikori moved up two spots to fifth in the ATP world rankings Monday after reaching the semifinals of the U.S. Open.

At Flushing Meadows, Nishikori defeated second-ranked Andy Murray — just his second win over the Scotsman in nine meetings — to advance to his second career Grand Slam semifinal before falling to eventual champion Stan Wawrinka, who stood at No. 3. Novak Djokovic remained in first.

The highest Nishikori has climbed in the rankings is fourth, which he attained in March last year.
