Kei Nishikori will be playing for nothing less than an Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro next month.
"I'll aim for gold and do whatever I can to win it," Nishikori said on Tuesday at a press event for one of his sponsors.
Nishikori retired in the round of 16 at Wimbledon with an abdominal injury, but said he is improving and is scheduled to play at the Rogers Cup in Toronto from July 25.
Nishikori reached the quarterfinals at the 2012 London Games.
"I'm getting better with each day. I plan to be up and running from Toronto," said the world No. 6.
Nishikori also said he cannot wait to take part in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, when he hopes to be in the prime of his career.
"It's still four years away so it's kind of hard to say," Nishikori said, "but I'm really looking forward to it since I'll be at my peak as a tennis player."
