Japan got its 2018 World Cup qualification campaign up and running with a 3-0 win over Cambodia on Thursday night.
The Samurai Blue had stumbled out of the blocks in their opening game on the road to Russia, drawing 0-0 at home to Singapore in June, but there were no such slip-ups despite a slow start against world No. 180-ranked Cambodia at Saitama Stadium.
Keisuke Honda broke the deadlock in the 28th minute before Maya Yoshida doubled Japan's advantage five minutes into the second half, and Shinji Kagawa added some gloss to the scoreline with a goal in the 61st minute.
