Lindsey Vonn, the most successful woman ski racer, said she broke her ankle while training in New Zealand on Thursday.
"Unfortunately I crashed today and have a small fracture in my ankle," Vonn wrote on her Twitter account. "Headed home now."
The 30-year-old from Vail, Colorado, missed the 2014 Sochi Olympics after having two surgeries on her right leg. In her comeback season she tied Ingemar Stenmark with 19 World Cup season titles. Vonn became the most successful female ski racer of all time by winning her 63rd World Cup race in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, in January.
