Toyama Grouses star Masashi Joho won't have offseason surgery after sustaining a knee injury in the final week of the regular season.
"I don't need surgery," Joho told The Japan Times on Friday night. "I need to rest."
The 33-year-old Joho sustained a medial collateral ligament injury to his right knee in the regular-season finale against the Gunma Crane Thunders on April 26.
As a result, he missed the Grouses' first-round playoff series against the Niigata Albirex BB last weekend.
Toyama was eliminated by the fourth-seeded hosts.
Joho was sidelined for seven games in November and December due to an injury to the same knee.
The veteran shooting guard appeared in 45 games during his 10th season in the bj-league. He led the Grouses with 16.7 points per game, adding 153 assists and 69 steals for the Eastern Conference club that went 35-17 and finished fifth in the 12-team conference.
In 2013-14, Joho became the first Japanese in league history to earn the regular-season MVP award. He averaged a career-best 17.4 points and helped lead Toyama to the Final Four for the first time in franchise history.
