The George Washington University men's basketball team advanced to the second round of the 32-team Postseason NIT by beating host Pittsburgh 60-54 on Tuesday.
Starting forward Yuta Watanabe, a freshman from Kagawa Prefecture, had six points, three rebounds and an assist for GW, which led 28-23 at halftime.
The triumphant fifth-seeded Colonials (22-12) have won five of their last seven games.
Fourth-seeded Pittsburgh fell to 19-15.
GW will face the winner of Wednesday's game between top-seeded Temple and No. 8 Bucknell. That second-round game's time and locale are TBA, but between Friday and Monday.
