Freshman forward Yuta Watanabe played an integral role in the George Washington University men's basketball team's 73-55 second-round victory over Duquesne in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Basketball Championship on Thursday in New York.
Watanabe shared the team lead in points (12) with guards Patrick Garino and Joe McDonald. He shot 5-for-12 from the floor, grabbed six rebounds, sank two 3-pointers, dished out two assists and made a steal in 30 minutes.
The sixth-seeded Colonials (21-11) led 40-27 at halftime at Barclays Center.
Duquesne, the No. 11 seed, closed out its season with a 12-19 record.
GWU faces third-seeded Rhode Island in the conference tournament quarterfinals on Friday at the same venue.
