Hosei Univeristy running back Ryo Tanabe rushed for 56 yards for the decisive touchdown with 9:27 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Tomahawks defeated the Waseda University Big Bears 28-24 on Sunday.
The Tomahawks joined their archival Nihon University Phoenix as the only two unbeaten teams with a 4-0 record in the Kanto Collegiate League Top 8 Division. The other six teams in the division, including the Big Bears (2-2), have lost at least two games with each having three games left this season. The Tomahawks are scheduled to play the Phoenix on Nov. 23, the final day of the league, at Yokohama Stadium.
Both teams took advantage of interceptions at Amino Vital Field in Chofu, Tokyo, but two giveaways turned out to be costly for the Big Bears.
