Kurumi Nara defeated Katerina Siniakova on Thursday in the second round of the Istanbul Cup to advance to the quarterfinals.

Nara, who is ranked 38th in the world and the sixth seed, beat the 130th-ranked Czech 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (7-3), 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal confrontation with Italian Roberta Vinci.

This will be the first career meeting between the 31-year-old Vinci, ranked 24th in the world and the second seed in Istanbul, and the 22-year-old Nara.

Nara's compatriot, Misaki Doi, failed to make it out of the second round. Doi lost 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 6-4 to Croatia's Ana Konjuh.
