Kyoto Hannaryz center Chris Holm, one of the premier rebounders in bj-league history, had a two-game series to remember last weekend against the Takamatsu Five Arrows.
Holm grabbed a whopping 29 rebounds along with 14 points in the series opener Saturday and hauled in 17 boards and scored 15 points a day later. He was named the Lawson/Ponta Weekly MVP, it was announced earlier this week.
The University of Vermont alum is averaging 11.8 rebounds this season, the third-best total in the 21-team circuit.
Holm has won league rebounding titles in three campaigns, the only player in league history to do so. He's won the past two titles, grabbing 14.5 per game last season for the Niigata Albirex BB and 14.3 for the Albirex in 2011-12.
In his first season in Japan, Holm pulled down a league-record 15.6 boards for the Sendai 89ers in 2008-09. (Former Niigata star Nick Davis averaged 15.5 rpg to earn the rebounding crown in 2005-06, the league's inaugural season.)
The Hannaryz (31-17, second place in the Western Conference), meanwhile, are having a strong late-season run, winning four straight and eight of their last 10 games.
Coach Honoo Hamaguchi guided Kyoto to the Final Four in each of the past two seasons.
