Japan beat Spain 2-0 in the Under-17 Women's World Cup final on Friday for the nation's second title in a FIFA competition.

Meika Nishida's fifth-minute goal set the Little Nadeshiko on their way before Fuka Kono doubled Japan's lead in the 78th minute in the Costa Rican capital.

Japan, whose captain Hina Sugita was named tournament MVP, dominated the event, winning all six games with 23 goals while conceding just once.

"The girls fought so bravely," coach Asako Takakura said. "So many people helped us with their development and that led to this championship."
