David Stern left his job, his passion really, as NBA commissioner last Saturday after 30 years as the league's top executive.
He also leaves as the greatest commissioner in the history of American sports.
Some would say Pete Rozelle, who presided over the spectacular growth of the National Football League to become the premier American team sport. Others might go back to Kenesaw Mountain Landis, who saved baseball from the cheating scandal a century ago. There isn't a criteria for that designation. But it's Stern in my view.
