Star guard Takuya Kawamura has left the Link Tochigi Brex in his latest attempt to land a spot on an NBA team.
The five-time JBL Best Five player is heading to Arizona next week to begin training in preparation for the NBA Summer League, his management agency, World Service Sports, announced on Thursday.
Twenty-one NBA teams and one NBA Development League squad of select players will compete in the upcoming Summer League, which will be held from July 12-22 on the UNLV campus.
Kamura played for the Phoenix Suns during the 2009 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. After failing to earn a roster spot for the regular season, he returned to the Brex.
"It was a total disappointment over there, but I learned to play smart," Kawamura told reporters after returning to Japan in 2009.
The 193-cm veteran led the JBL in scoring for four straight seasons, 2008-12.
