Japan defender Atsuto Uchida is out indefinitely with a torn hamstring, his Bundesliga club Schalke announced on Monday.

Uchida did not play in Schalke's 4-0 away defeat to leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday, three days after appearing for Japan in a home friendly against Latvia. Schalke is currently 10th in the league.

Schalke did not specify which hamstring Uchida tore. The right-back, however, did tear his right hamstring in December.
