Sendai 89ers coach Bob Pierce has challenged forward Takuya Komoda to be more assertive offensively, and it's starting to pay off.
Komoda was 7-for-16 from the field in both weekend games against the host Gunma Crane Thunders, helping the 89ers (5-7) earn a sweep. He scored 14 points in the opener and 15, matching a season-high total, on Sunday. The 25-year-old Komoda is the Lawson Ponta Weekly MVP, the bj-league announced Tuesday.
The November MVP award, meanwhile, goes to Ryukyu Golden Kings newcomer Terrance Woodbury, who averaged 21.3 points per game in six contests this month for the league's lone remaining unbeaten team.
Woodbury, a University of Georgia product, shot 62.9 percent from inside the arc and 11-for-22 from beyond. His November point totals: 22, 22, 23, 22, 13 and 26 (in succession). He leads the Golden Kings (12-0) with 19.7 ppg.
