Former Shiga Lakestars big man Luke Zeller has survived the Phoenix Suns' latest roster cut and could make his regular-season NBA debut in the coming days. Phoenix waived forward/center Solomon Jones and forward Ike Diogu on Thursday and the team's roster now stands at 15.
According to published reports, the Suns are expected to release one more player, with post player Channing Frye, sidelined with an enlarged heart, likely to start the season on the inactive list.
The Suns open their season on Oct. 31 against the Golden State Warriors, who include ex-Tokyo Apache pivotman Jeremy Tyler.
Zeller, 25, was an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame in 2009. He suited up for Shiga in the 2009-10 season, then played in Lithuania and the NBA Development League the past two seasons. His younger brother, Tyler, a 213-cm big man, is a Cleveland Cavaliers rookie.
