Newly promoted yokozuna Harumafuji remained unstoppable on Monday, winning the first day of the All Japan sumo tournament, beating ozeki Kisenosato in the final.

Harumafuji was promoted to yokozuna last month after wrapping up his second straight championship with a perfect 15-0 record. Monday's victory was his first one-day title in three years and the fourth of his career, matching the record held by Futabayama and Akebono.

The new yokozuna defeated sekiwake Myogiryu in their quarterfinal bout and followed that by dispatching Russian maegashira Aran. Yokozuna Hakuho fell in his second-round bout to Georgian komusubi Tochinoshin.
