Young Nadeshiko Japan advanced to the Women's Under-20 World Cup semifinals by beating South Korea 3-1 on Thursday in Tokyo.

Hanae Shibata scored a pair of goals in the first 19 minutes for Japan. Yoko Tanaka scored the third tally in the 37th minute.

South Korea's Jeoun Eun Ha tied it at 1-1 in the 15th minute at National Stadium, then Shibata delivered her second goal four minutes later.

Japan will face the Germany-Norway winner in Tuesday's semifinals. The European squads square off on Friday.

Nigeria prevails in 109th minute

Nigeria beat Mexico 1-0 on Desire Oparanozie's extra time goal to advance to the semifinals of the Women's Under-20 World Cup on Thursday.

The African squad dominated the first hour but was unable to breakthrough until Oparanozie's header from Ugo Njoku's cross in the 109th minute at National Stadium.

Nigeria, runnerup at the 2010 tournament, will next play the winner of Friday's quarterfinal between the United States and North Korea on Tuesday.

Mexico had a chance to take the lead, but Yamile Franco hit the crossbar with an angled free kick in the first period of extra time.
