Yomiuri's Tetsuya Utsumi (12-6) worked 8 2/3 innings and took over the league lead in wins as the Giants remained unbeaten since Aug. 16, defeating the BayStars 3-1 on Friday.
Yoshinobu Takahashi had a two-run, first-inning single and Shuichi Murata followed with an RBI single in a victory over Yokohama.
Utsumi didn't give up a hit until the seventh inning, when Alex Ramirez was held to an infield single on a bullet down the third base line that Murata stopped with a mighty effort. The BayStars got on the board in the eighth on a solo homer by Hichori Morimoto.
