Toshiya Sugiuchi threw a one-hitter and struck out 13 over eight sizzling innings Friday, and Shinnosuke Abe went 4-for-5 as the Yomiuri Giants blanked the Hiroshima Carp 9-0 to extend their unbeaten run to six games.

The left-handed Sugiuchi (10-2) allowed one single and a walk in the third, but was otherwise untouchable as he went on to match the Central League lead for wins. Yusuke Nomura (7-4) gave up four runs and eight hits in 6⅔ innings of the loss.

Sugiuchi has had victories against 13 Japanese baseball clubs, including the Kintetsu Buffaloes before they merged with Orix. He is the second player to achieve the feat since Kimiyasu Kudo did so with the Yokohama BayStars in 2007.
