Former Georgetown College (Kentucky) swingman Jordan DeMercy has signed a contract to play for the Akita Northern Happinets next season, the NAIA school announced on Monday.
In June, DeMercy participated in a tryout camp involving the NBA Development League, Chinese and Japanese clubs, according to published reports .
As a senior, the 198-cm DeMercy averaged 11.3 points and 8.5 rebounds in 23 games in 2011-12 for the Georgetown Tigers. The Georgia native previously attended Florida State.
"I will be playing the wing position for head coach Kazuo Nakamura," DeMercy said. "I am very excited for this opportunity to open a new chapter in my career and become a professional basketball player. I am blessed to play the game I love and for the family I have supporting me."
