Kensuke Nagai extended his red-hot scoring streak with an equalizer seven minutes from time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Nagoya Grampus against Yokohama F. Marinos on Saturday.
Nagai, who is in contention for a place in Japan's 18-man Olympic squad when it is named on Monday, went into the match at Nissan Stadium having scored five goals in his previous three outings, but it was Marinos who took the lead through Marquinhos in the 53rd minute.
A chest-down from strike partner Josh Kennedy gave Nagai the chance to lash in the equalizer as the game moved toward the final whistle, however, continuing a significant change in fortunes for the 23-year-old after scoring only twice before the June international break.
