Tetsuya Kokubo hit a two-run double to key a three-run fifth inning, Yuya Fukui pitched three scoreless frames and the Hiroshima Carp edged the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks 3-2 in a preseason game Sunday.

Masafumi Suenaga opened the scoring with an RBI single following back-to-back singles by Ryohei Matsuyama and Brian Barden before Kokubo's double to right-center made it 3-0 at Miyazaki Ivy Stadium.

Fukui scattered three hits and walked none. Hiroki Yamada allowed one hit in three scoreless innings for the Japan Series champion Hawks.

Former major league outfielder Wily Mo Pena, acquired by Softbank this winter, had two hits for the second consecutive game. Four other preseason games were postponed due to rain.
