Japan forward Ryoichi Maeda has been on trial with English Championship side West Ham United and will hear an answer by Monday, club manager Sam Allardyce said Thursday.

Allardyce revealed that Maeda, who turns 31 in October and scored 14 goals in 28 J. League appearances for Jubilo Iwata, has been training at the club since Tuesday.

It would be Maeda's first transfer, either at home or abroad. He has spent all 12 seasons of his career with Jubilo, and became the first player ever to win consecutive J. League scoring titles in 2009 and 2010.

Last January, Maeda helped Japan win a record fourth Asian Cup. He has six goals in 16 appearances for his country.
