Chas McFarland made a pair of free throws with 3 seconds remaining as the Yokohama B-Corsairs edged the Saitama Broncos 87-85 on Friday night in the bj-league.
McFarland, a Wake Forest product, and Justin Burrell had 20 points apiece for the expansion B-Corsairs (10-13). Masayuki Kabaya scored 14, Marcus Simmons added 12, while ex-Tokyo Apache guard Minoru Kimura and Kenji Yamada handed out seven and five assists, respectively, at Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium.
John "Helicopter" Humphrey led the Broncos (7-16) with 28 points and Jayme Miller had 14. Kenny Satterfield had 13 points and 11 assists. Humphrey and Satterfield each made five steals.
Saitama used a 23-6 spurt to tie it at 43-43 late in the second quarter. Yokohama, which held a 50-27 rebounding edge, led 48-45 at halftime.
