Japan striker Mike Havenaar will move to Dutch first-division club Vitesse from relegated J. League side Ventforet Kofu, sources familiar with the matter said Wednesday.

Vitesse has offered a multiyear contract to the towering 24-year-old forward, who has also been linked with other European clubs such as Germany's Wolfsburg, according to the Dutch media.

Havenaar will join defender Michihiro Yasuda at Vitesse.

Havenaar made his national team debut as a substitute on Sept. 2, when Japan edged North Korea 1-0 in its opening qualifier for the 2014 World Cup.

A month later, he scored twice in his first start in an 8-0 drubbing of Tajikistan in another World Cup qualifier at home.

Havenaar scored 17 goals in the J. League first division in 2011 to finish second on the scoring charts, two behind Australia striker Josh Kennedy.
