Former pitcher Hideki Irabu was severely intoxicated at the time of his death, according to the results of toxicology reports from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.
Irabu, whose body was found at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on July 27, had a blood alcohol level of .23 when he died, nearly three times the legal limit of .08 in the state.
"There were no quantifiable Rx (prescription) or illicit drugs detected," wrote Craig Harvey, chief coroner investigator and chief of operations, in an email to The Japan Times on Friday. "The blood alcohol was .23."
The 42-year-old Irabu was found hanging in the garage of his home by a family friend, according to multiple media reports.
Irabu was said to be despondent over his wife and two children leaving him and concerns about his future.
