Japan international midfielder Yuki Abe headed his first goal of the season as Leicester City ended 10-man Brighton and Hove Albion's unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 home win in the second-tier English Championship on Saturday.

Abe rose to head home the clincher off a deep cross from Darius Vassell less than a minute into the second period, extending the Foxes' unbeaten run to five games in all competitions and lifting them to ninth in the table.

In Germany, Abe's Japan and former Urawa Reds teammate Hajime Hosogai was also on target, scoring his second of the campaign in promoted Augsburg's 2-2 draw away to Hertha Berlin.

"It's more important that we win than me scoring," said Hosogai.
