Hammer thrower Koji Murofushi, who won the gold medal at the 2011 IAAF World Athletics Championships, has been voted into the six-member IAAF Athletes Commission. Voting ended on Thursday.
Murofushi's term runs from Jan. 1, 2012, until Dec. 31, 2015. He received the third-most votes (368) behind pole vaulter Monika Pyrek Pol of Finland (372) and Swedish high jumper Stefan Holm (397). The commission also includes American hurdler David Oliver, Spanish shot putter Manuel Martinez and Kenyan runner Benjamin Limo Ken.
Murofushi also won the 2004 Olympic gold medal in Athens.
