Former St. John's forward Justin Burrell, the Big East Conference's 2011 Sixth Man of the Year, will play for the bj-league's Yokohama B-Corsairs during their inaugural season, according to published reports.
On Friday, St. John's sports media relations website posted a detailed press release on the 206-cm Burrell, who averaged 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Steve Lavin-coached team.
"I am extra excited. I can't wait to be in a new country and a new city and begin a new chapter in my life," said Burrell, who hails from New York City. "I will never forget St. John's and the opportunities it gave me and the people I've met."
The Red Storm went 21-12 during Burrell's senior season, Lavin's first at the helm. Now, Lavin has high hopes for Burrell as a pro.
"Justin's dominating physical style of play in the basket area at both ends of the floor was key to our success this past season," Lavin said in a news release.
Former NBA guard Reggie Geary is Yokohama's coach.
