The JBL's Hokkaido franchise has selected a new name. The Sapporo-based team will now be known as Levanga Hokkaido, it was announced on Tuesday.
The franchise was originally called Rera Kamuy Hokkaido, but was stripped of its name when the club's parent company was kicked out of the league due to financial woes last season. The team ended the season with a league-backed management group and a new moniker, calling itself Basketball Club Hokkaido.
Now, under new general manager and longtime JBL star Takehiko Orimo, Levanga Hokkaido will sport lavender, purple and gold jerseys. The JBL season tips off in early October.
