WBA bantamweight champion Koki Kameda will take on challenger David Delamora of Mexico in a world doubleheader at Tokyo's Budokan on Aug. 31, boxing sources said Tuesday.
Tomonobu Shimizu, who is ranked fourth in the flyweight division, will get his third shot at a world title in a matchup with WBA super flyweight champion Hugo Cazares as part of the twin bill.
Known for his quick hands, the 30-year-old Shimizu has an 18-3 record, including nine knockouts, and one draw. Cazares, 33, will be making his fifth title defense. He is 35-6-2 (25 KOs).
"Third time lucky. I wanted to box in my (lighter) flyweight division, but I can't be choosy now. I'm determined to bet my life to win this title," Shimizu said.
Kameda, who will train for the fight against the sixth-ranked Delamora in the Philippines, said, "I'll be sparring to get in top form."
