Enyelbert Soto threw five strong innings of one-run ball in his first start in Japan, his teammates broke out the bats and the Chunichi Dragons snapped a three-game skid with a 7-1 rout of the Yomiuri Giants on Monday.

The 28-year-old Soto (1-0), a lefty from Venezuela with experience in the minor leagues in his first year in Japan, allowed four hits, struck out two and walked none at Tokyo Dome.

"The point is control. I could pitch the course I wanted to," said Soto, who has pitched out of the bullpen 11 times this season. "Whether I'm starting or in the bullpen, I want to contribute to the team," he continued.
