German soccer franchise Borussia Dortmund have no intention of letting Shinji Kagawa go to Manchester United should the Premier League giant swoop in with a lucrative offer, as is being reported in Japan.
Dortmund's sports director Michael Zorc went so far as to tell German tabloid Bild on Tuesday that United manager Alex Ferguson should not even bother making an offer for Kagawa, whose stock has soared in the European market after helping the club to the Bundesliga title this season.
"We can't even think about selling Kagawa. It's not even necessary for Ferguson to make an offer," Zorc was quoted as saying of the 22-year-old Japanese international.
Asked if Dortmund would reject an offer in the neighborhood of ?20 million Zorc said, "As a matter of fact, we want to extend Kagawa's contract as soon as possible. When he comes back from holiday, we will sit down and go through everything with him."
Kagawa only returned from a lengthy layoff last month after breaking his right metatarsal at the Asian Cup in January. He was kept out of the Kirin Cup by coach Alberto Zaccheroni to focus on making a complete recovery.
Kagawa has said in the past that Dortmund is only a stopover in his career, and his goal is to play for Barcelona -- who outclassed United in the Champions League final two weeks ago.
