Japan suffered a 2-0 defeat Saturday to the United States in a warmup for both teams for next month's Women's World Cup in Germany.

Abby Wambach headed the Americans into the lead on 29 minutes and then turned provider for Amy Rodriguez to seal victory with a close-range finish eight minutes later.

The match was preceded by a moment of silence for victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan, killing thousands.

Japan will play another friendly against the U.S. on Wednesday. The Women's World Cup kicks off on June 26.
