Striker Robert Cullen is set to link up with national team defender Maya Yoshida after signing with Dutch first division club VVV Venlo.

Venlo announced on its official website on Friday that the 25-year-old former Jubilo Iwata striker has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal after impressing during several weeks of training with the club.

Cullen, the son of a Northern Irish father and Japanese mother, will become the third Japanese player to turn out for Venlo. World Cup midfielder Keisuke Honda joined from Nagoya Grampus in 2008 and quickly established himself before earning a move to CSKA Moscow.
