Former Kawasaki Frontale manager Takashi Sekizuka will coach Japan at the 2012 London Olympics, Kyodo News learned Wednesday.

The Japan Football Association is expected to make an official announcement in the coming days.

The 49-year-old Sekizuka, who oversaw Frontale's promotion to the J. League first division and turned them into perennial championship contenders, will also serve as an assistant to the manager of the full national team — once he is found by the JFA.

Sekizuka will be in the dugout for Japan's upcoming friendlies against Paraguay and Guatemala along with technical director Hiromi Hara, who will be acting coach for the two games. He stepped down as Kawasaki manager after last season.
