Japan will play fierce rival South Korea in a friendly in Seoul on Oct. 12, the Japan Football Association said Friday.

The match will follow exhibition matches the Blue Samurai have penciled in at home to Paraguay, the country they lost to on penalties in the round of 16 at the World Cup in South Africa, on Sept. 4 in Yokohama and Guatemala three days later in Osaka.

Another match has been arranged for Oct. 8 in Saitama, with Japan's opponent yet to be finalized. The JFA is looking at the possibility of playing a team from either South America or the CONCACAF region.

The JFA is seeking a successor to World Cup coach Takeshi Okada, who guided Japan to the second round for the first time on foreign turf at this summer's tournament.

JFA vice president Kuni Daini revealed that the association's technical director Hiromi Hara is overseas and in the final round of negotiations for a replacement for Okada, who stepped down from his post after the World Cup.

The new boss is expected to be in charge of selecting the players starting with the Paraguay game.
