Orix Buffaloes pitcher Chihiro Kaneko and Buffaloes first baseman Takahiro Okada won the Pacific League monthly MVP awards on Friday.

It was the first time that the team won in both the pitching and fielding categories since July 2000.

Kaneko matched a league high with three consecutive shutouts and was 5-0 with a 0.90 ERA in the month of July. He took the accolade for the second time in his career.

Okada caught fire with a league-high nine home runs and 21 RBIs. He homered twice in one game three times and won the MVP for the first time in his career.

In the Central League, Tokyo Yakult Swallows lefty Masanori Ishikawa and Hanshin Tigers second baseman Keiichi Hirano took the honors.

Ishikawa went 4-0 to win the award for the first time since April 2008. First-time winner Hirano had 14 multi-hit games and batted a league-high .435.
