HIROSHIMA (Kyodo) The Hiroshima Carp said Friday they have acquired right-handed reliever Vinnie Chulk with the hope that he will help a weakened bullpen.

The 31-year-old, who was with the Pittsburgh Pirates' Triple-A affiliate this year, has agreed to a one-year deal worth ¥22.5 million performance bonuses.

He has a 7-15 record with a 4.33 ERA in 252 major league appearances in 2003-09.

Hiroshima relievers Katsuhiro Nagakawa, Ryuji Yokoyama and Mike Schultz have been removed from the active roster due to injuries.
