Eiichi Koyano and Makoto Kaneko each hit grand slams in the eighth inning as the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters routed the Orix Buffaloes 11-1 for their third straight win on Sunday.

Koyano hit his first career grand slam to extend Nippon Ham's lead to 7-1. The Fighters went on to hit three consecutive singles, setting the scene for Kaneko's drive to left at Kyocera Dome.

It was the fourth time in Japanese baseball history that two grand slams were hit in one inning. On Sunday, rookie Toru Anan gave up both of them.

"It was a bases-loaded situation (with one out), so I tried to hit at least a sacrifice fly," Koyano said. "I didn't think my swing was hard enough to clear the fence, so I thought it would probably be a fly ball."
